Born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1971, Mateo Arguello Pitt has exhibited widely in Spain, France and the United States as well as his native country. His provocative imagery, often an existentialistic statement about the alienation of the individualist, may reflect his views on being a serious artist.

Mateo Arguello Pitt’s oft-repeated figure wearing boxing gloves is a metaphor for the triumph of the human spirit. Working from a predetermined theme, Mateo Arguello Pitt likes to let his subconscious take over a painting, much like the abstract expressionists. His visual elements, like the phrases of poetry, can represent concepts that reveal themselves to the artist and viewers of his works only upon reflection and consideration of their context.

Embellished with Mateo Arguello Pitt’s unique imagery, the artist’s series of sculptures are a new form of expression that complement his paintings. The artist says that these recent three-dimensional themes—dogs, trees, bodies of water—speak of the relationship between people and nature, as an extension of our bodies.
